EFFECTIVE MONDAY, AUGUST 24th

YANCEY COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE OPERATING UNDER PLAN C

ALL STUDENTS VIRTUAL

Beginning Monday, August 24th, Yancey County Schools will be operating under Plan C. Your child’s teacher should have shared a daily schedule including times for your student to log on. If you have not yet received this schedule or you cannot access it online, please contact your child’s teacher.

During Plan C, every Wednesday will be designated as a “pick-up/drop-off day” for each school. The times are from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Please try to observe the time designated for your child’s grade, if at all possible:

2:00pm - 3:00pm - Kindergarten and 1st Grades

3:00pm - 4:00pm - 2nd and 3rd Grades

4:00pm - 5:00pm - 4th and 5th Grades

5:00pm - 6:00pm - General time if unable to arrive previously

Starting Wednesday, August 26th, library books will be available for checkout. We strongly encourage you to pick up 1-2 library books per week for your child to read as they will have nightly reading assignments in most classes. In the event your child needs additional books to read each week, please contact your child’s teacher OR Mrs. Ashley Silver, our Media Coordinator. Should your child desire to read a specific book or novel, please contact Mrs. Silver or your child’s teacher to put in your request. These requests will be filled on a first come first served basis.

During Plan C, teachers will be working with their entire class during the hours between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. Afternoons from 1:00pm - 3:00 pm are designated times for individual tutoring and instruction. These individual sessions will take place online and, sometimes, in person during one-to-one sessions at school. Teachers will be contacting parents to schedule these sessions, however, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher with questions or concerns regarding the education of your child.

Now more than ever, we must work together to ensure that our students receive the best education possible. Many of you have raved about the teachers at Micaville and hold them in high regard. I agree whole-heartedly. We are very blessed to have these specific teachers working diligently to meet the individual needs of our students, academically as well as socially/ emotionally.

Let us communicate frequently, work collaboratively, and support one another just as we encourage our students. Let us model the amazing things that can be accomplished when we come together with a common goal in mind. Finally, let us guide our children through this extremely difficult time which is unmatched even for the majority, if not all, adults. There is an old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” and I am honored to be a part of this particular village.

As always, thank you for your cooperation and for your support of Micaville Elementary.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are excited to announce that Health-e-Schools telehealth services are available for your child either at school or in the virtual/remote learning environment. We are available during regular school hours to meet your healthcare needs via telehealth. If your child is at school, your school nurse has been trained to work with our healthcare providers online, via safe and secure computer equipment. Or, if learning at home, your child can be seen via video using your smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera.

How do I request an appointment or talk with a Health-e-Schools nurse?

  • If you need to be seen at home - email appts@crhi.org with your information including name, date of birth and a good contact number for someone to call you.

  • If you need to be seen at school - contact your school nurse or email appts@crhi.org with your information including name, date of birth and a good contact number for someone to call you.

What to expect for a telehealth visit:

  • We will send you a private zoom link just for your appointment.

  • Your insurance, including all major carriers, Medicaid and NC Health Choice, will be billed just as it is when you visit your provider.

  • If your child is uninsured, we will work with you on a generous sliding scale to ensure that he or she receives the same affordable care as well.

  • We send the encounter summary to your Primary Care Provider.

  • Prescriptions will be sent electronically to your pharmacy.

We look forward to assisting you and your student by providing health care services at his or her school or home.

Sincerely,

The Health-e-Schools Staff
