YCS Surplus Properties & Facilities Update

Yancey County Schools Surplus Update

On Friday, November 19, 2021, the sale of the properties of Bald Creek Elementary, Bee Log Elementary, and the Bald Creek Daycare were finalized.

After several months of negotiations, upset bid processes, and due diligence inspections, J. Martin McCoy is now the owner of two of Yancey County’s historic school buildings as well as the Bald Creek Daycare Building.

McCoy is President of Fulcra Enterprises, Inc. that is based out of Cornelius, North Carolina that operates as a real estate development company.

The three properties sold at a total price of $725,000. Clearmont Elementary was included in the original bid, however, McCoy requested to terminate and re-bid, dropping Clearmont Elementary after determining this property was not suitable for his plans. After going through a second 10 day upset bid process, McCoy continued his due diligence inspection period and closed on the properties on November 19th.

School Board Chairman Edwin Fortner states, “We appreciate the work of Commercial Broker John Webb of Beverly-Hanks in making the sale of these properties. This will help put Yancey County Schools in a better funding position for future school improvements for our staff and students.”
